Using Roll Call Attendance

Using Roll Call Attendance

Roll Call Attendance can't be out of Zero Points, it has to be out of at least 1 point to function properly.

Grading Roll Call Attendance

  1. Go to the Roll Call Assignment in your course.

  2. Select Edit Assignment Settings.

  3. Change Points from 0 to 1 or more.

  4. If you don’t want this to count toward students' grades, you make two settings edits:

    1. Check the box next to “Do not count this assignment towards the final grade” in the Assignment. Make sure to Save.

    2. Check “Do not count attendance toward final grade” in the Roll Call Attendance tool

  5. Scroll to the bottom of the page and select Save.

Refreshing Roll Call Attendance

If grades are not populating as expected after setting up Roll Call Attendance, take the following steps to clear cached data.

  1. Go to the Roll Call Assignment in your course.

  2. Select a future date.

  3. Mark all students present and then unmark them.

This will force through the cached data, allowing the grades to display as expected in the grade book column.

Editing Roll Call Attendance

If you edit the roll call assignment after taking attendance, the Gradebook will not adjust point value changes accurately. The percentage values in the SpeedGrader and the Gradebook will be incorrect. To correct the issue, take the following steps.

  1. Go to the Roll Call Assignment in your course.

  2. Click the Unmark All button for the day’s attendance record, then take attendance for all students as normal.

    1. If you make this change immediately after the first time you take roll in your course and edit the point value, you only have to adjust your work once.

  3. If you have taken attendance for many days before making the edit, you will need to perform Step 2 for each day attendance was taken before the change so values display correctly in both SpeedGrader and the Gradebook.
