Installing ProctorU's Guardian Browser
Summary
This article outlines the steps for installing Guardian browser on PC and Mac. Begining May 10th, 2023, ProctorU Live+ and Record+ exams will be delivered through Guardian. Exams can be started by launching Guardian browser and navigating to the test in Canvas.
Installing Guardian Browser for Windows
If you don’t already have one, create a ProctorU test-taker account using your Boise State student email. Do not use a personal email account. If you already have a ProtorU account associated with your student email, continue to the next step.
Download the Windows version of Guardian Browser from the Guardian Download Page.
Launch the installer and wait for the app to complete the installation process.
The Guardian Browser will launch after you complete the installation process.
Installing Guardian Browser for Mac
If you don’t already have one, create a ProctorU test-taker account using your Boise State student email. Do not use a personal email account. If you already have a ProtorU account associated with your student email, continue to the next step.
Download the Mac version of Guardian Browser from the Guardian Download Page. Select the correct version for your specific machine (M1-M2 / Intel).
To verify which chip your device uses, click the Apple Menu in the top left corner of your menu bar, then click About This Mac.
Open the file, then click and drag the Guardian Browser app to your Mac’s Applications folder.
Launch Guardian Browser from Launchpad. The first time you access the browser, you will be prompted to grant permission for Guardian to use your webcam and microphone as well as record your screen. You must grant these permissions in order to use the browser.
Verify that the Browser has all the necessary permissions to run correctly. Click the Apple Menu > System Settings > Privacy & Security. Inspect the Microphone, Camera, and Screen Recording permissions to ensure that Guardian Browser is toggled on for each of these.
Restart the browser to allow any changes to take effect.
