Set up Your Panopto Course Folder for Instructor Videos
To ensure permissions for accessing or viewing instructor videos (e.g. lectures, demonstrations, etc.) will transfer with the course when future course copies are made, store your instructor videos in a Panopto Course Folder.
Notes:
Anyone enrolled in a course with Course Administrator or Teacher role, will have Creator access to the Panopto Course Folder by default.
Those enrolled with Student or Observer role, will have Viewer permissions for videos in the Panopto Course Folder unless video settings are set to public (unlisted) anyone with a link.
To establish the Panopto Course Folder:
Enable Panopto Video in the Canvas course navigation
Go to Settings
Select the Navigation tab
Drag Panopto Video up so it will appear in the course navigation
Click Save
Create a Panopto Course Folder
Select Panopto Video in the Canvas course navigation
Clicking Panopto Video will initiate the Panopto integration. A Panopto Course Folder appears on the Panopto Video content area in Canvas
Access videos within the Panopto Course Folder
Access the course videos using the Panopto Video menu, or using the rich content editor toolbar
The course folder will also be listed under My Folder in Panopto
Add Videos to the Panopto Course Folder (Record or Upload)
Do not alter share permissions on individual videos. If you record directly into the folder or upload them, allow videos to inherit permissions from the folder. Altering the access permissions on individual videos in a course folder, such as making them available only to people with Creator permission, will interfere with the course copy process.
In Canvas, click Panopto Video
Click Create
Select Panopto Capture or Windows app to begin recording
Select Upload to add videos recorded by phone, iPad, or computer. Or drag and drop mp4 video onto the Panopto Video page. See Panopto Features - Uploading Video and Audio
Move Existing Panopto Instructor Videos into the Course Folder
Transfer existing Panopto videos from an instructor's private account to the Course Folder to ensure they are always associated with the current course.
Login to your Boise State Panopto account
In your video library, hover over the video you want to copy and click Settings. This will bring you to the Overview tab
Click Edit next to the Folder name
Choose the Course Folder located within the Canvas Top Level to move the video.
When finished, click Save
Embed Panopto Course Videos in Your Course
Videos within the Panopto Videos course folder may be embedded anywhere in the course where the text editor is visible.
Edit the page, assignment, discussion, quiz question, etc. where a course video should display
Select Panopto in the text editor
Choose the video
Click Insert
Specify video options in the settings menu, on the video or course folder, if needed
Specify advanced player options associated with Panopto discussions, search, private notes, etc.
Considerations for Sharing the Panopto Course Folder
Program Faculty Access
Discuss faculty access permission with program managers;
A user group can be created in Panopto to set create permissions for some instructors and viewer permissions for others
eCampus Multimedia Access
If eCampusCenter is assisting with creating or editing your instructional videos, they will need access to the Panopto Course Folder. To do that:
Anyone with a Course Admin role in the course can do this. Preferably, this is performed by the IDC, and enables video access for the eCampus multimedia and vetting teams.
Select the Share icon on the Panopto Course Folder in Canvas
Add eCampus Video to People and groups
Select Creator
Click the box to send an email notification
Click Save
Click Done
Set a video folder to enable student viewing
Select the Share icon on the Panopto Course Folder
Scroll down to Who can access this folder
Select the Change link (When videos are not visible to students it may say ‘Only specific people and groups’.)
Select ‘Public (unlisted)’
Click Save
Click Done
Hiding Panopto Videos in the Course Menu
After course videos have been added, you may choose to hide the Panopto Video menu item in the course navigation. In that listing, the videos will display out of order and without context from the instructor.
In the Settings of the Canvas course, using the Navigation tab to adjust which items do and do not appear in the menu. Drag Panopto Video to the lower list, then Save your change. Refer to How do I manage Course Navigation links? for additional assistance.
