LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment within Blackboard. LockDown prevents academic integrity violations during exams by restricting access to other windows, tabs, and webpages until the test is submitted. It also disables certain keyboard shortcuts and prevents access to other applications.
What Restrictions Does Lockdown Offer?
Assessments are displayed full-screen and cannot be minimized
Browser menu and toolbar options are removed, except for Back, Forward, Refresh and Stop
Prevents access to other applications including messaging, screen-sharing, virtual machines, and remote desktops
Printing and screen capture functions are disabled
Copying and pasting anything to or from an assessment is prevented
Right-click menu options, function keys, keyboard shortcuts and task switching are disabled
An assessment cannot be exited until the student submits it for grading
Assessments that are set up for use with LockDown Browser cannot be accessed with other browsers

How Does Respondus LockDown Work?
You can configure Respondus LockDown directly from Blackboard. This process is covered in more detail on the “How To Set Up A Respondus LockDown Exam” page. After setting up your tests, create an announcement to share the Respondus LockDown Browser download link with your students.
Students who attempt to access the test with other web browsers will see an error prompting them to download Respondus LockDown.
