Summary Instructors can use Middleware allows instructors to create Canvas course sites for the classes that they are slated to teach (based on PeopleSoft listings). Middleware also their courses and ensures enrollment sync between PeopleSoft and Canvas. This article outlines course creation for single-section course sites. Refer to the merged sections article for instructions on creating combined Canvas sites containing multiple sections. |
Instructions
Navigate to https://middleware.boisestate.edu and log in with your Boise State credentials.
If you have multiple Middleware roles
in Middleware, be sure to switch to
your Faculty Rolethe appropriate role before proceeding. Click the
Optionsoptions button in the top right-hand corner
next to your name ( ⋮ ). Click Switch Roles, then select the Faculty role, then click Switch Roles.
Click on the Term identifier Selection Field [2] and select the appropriate term from the drop-down.
From the listing of your available course for the selected term, click on +CREATE COURSE.
If you are unable to find certain courses to create, pleasea term to see your assigned courses.
Click the +CREATE COURSE button [3] next to the desired class to create a Canvas course site. If you don’t see the course you need, ensure that you are the listed
asinstructor for the course
instructorin PeopleSoft.
On the Course Information screen, click the Course Name to personalize the course title if desired.From the Course Availability dropdown, make your availability choice (default is Start of Term). A detailed description of the Course Availability settings is available at the end COURSE INFO tab, you can customize the course name [4] and set the course availability date [5]. Detailed descriptions of Course Availability options are available at the bottom of this article.
If you wish to copy the content from an old course, use the optional course copy field [6]. Enter the Canvas SIS Course ID of the source course. You must have either the Teacher or the Course Administrator role in the source course. Ask the
instructorcourse owner to add you to the course if needed.
Click the Next button to proceed [7].
On the Manual Enrollments screen MANUAL ENROLLMENTS tab, you can add teaching assistants or co-instructors other users to the course. You must enter either Enter an Employee ID or a Boise State Username, then click the + button [8] to add users to the course. Click Next to proceed [9].
On the Additional Options screen ADDITIONAL OPTIONS tab, you can request to be notified by receive an email notification when the course is ready [10]. Click SUBMIT to complete the processcreate the course site [11].
After submitting, you will see a summary page containing details of the course you created. Your newly created course will be available on your Canvas homepage within 15 minutes (you may need to refresh your screen for it to appear). You can click the Home button to return to the Middleware main page and create additional course sites.
