Students may not be fully aware of the potential risks associated with sharing and storing personal information online. Educating them on how to protect their data helps build a culture of privacy awareness and safe online practices. Knowledge of data privacy can also help students recognize and avoid potential risks, such as phishing attacks, malware, or other security threats.

Include a statement or link to information on protecting learners’ data and privacy for software used in the course (e.g., syllabus links to University Support and Policies which includes a Student Online Privacy section).
Add links to privacy policies for tools not vetted by the institution but chosen by the instructor to the syllabus. See also QM 8.7.
