Using a variety of instructional materials in a course is a highly effective teaching strategy that caters to diverse learning preferences, enhances engagement, and provides a comprehensive approach to education. Different students have different learning preferences including visual, auditory, reading/writing, and kinesthetic. By incorporating a range of materials, a course can better engage all students and support their individual learning processes.

General Suggestions
Specific Review Standard 4.5 is met if at least one out of three of the following types of variety are present in the course:
Variety of types (i.e., different types of media used to deliver content).
Different perspectives and different representations of ideas.
Non-stereotypical representations of persons or demographic groups.
Additional elements to look for:
Multiple means of representation are offered for materials provided.
If appropriate for the content, a mix of text, images, and video are used to approach it in different ways.
Lack of variety can refer to whether all materials come from a narrow range of publishers or only from the instructor, etc.
Instructional materials highlight different views (diverse voices) on the course subject.
Images or representations in course materials show variety and/or avoid promoting stereotypes.
