Clearly articulated objectives inform students about what they are expected to learn and achieve by the end of the course. This clarity helps students focus their efforts and understand the purpose behind course activities and assessments. When objectives are centered around learners' needs and interests, students are more likely to be engaged and motivated. Placing learning objectives prominently at the beginning of the course materials (such as the syllabus, course website, or module introductions) ensures that students are aware of them from the start and can regularly refer back to them, helping to keep their learning on track.

  • Per QM annotation, all three of the following must be present in order for this standard to be met:

    • Learning objectives are clearly stated (i.e. easy to locate, prominently displayed) in the course.

    • Learning objectives are written from the learner's perspective.

    • Course learning objectives are prominently displayed in the syllabus and/or course introduction and module objectives are prominently displayed at the beginning of the module.
