Linking VitalSource Textbooks

Critical to Know

  • Plan on creating your Canvas course(s) well in advance so when you are ready to select your text, the Canvas course is there in the bookstore’s system.

  • The bookstore’s system may take 24-48 hours to reflect your Canvas course in their system.

Important: If you merge courses after setting up your textbook, email Jon Fortner and Codi Townsend so everyone can be sure the materials are linked in the new, merged course.

Instructions

  1. Open the course.

  2. Go to Modules.

  3. Click the + sign on the desired module to add a new item to it.

    1. Choose External Tool from the dropdown.

    2. Select BookShelf by VitalSource. The URL will auto-populate.

    3. Check "Load in new tab".

    4. Click Add Item.
