Graded H5P Object in Canvas (using Pressbooks)

The information below walks an instructor through how to integrate an H5P activity into Canvas for inclusion in Grades. If you have questions about how to create an H5P object in Pressbooks, see this Pressbooks Guide for Educators: Create Interactive Activities with H5P.

  1. Go into the course where you would like to add a graded H5P object/assignment.

  2. Select Modules, find the module you want to add the H5P assignment to, and click the + icon in the top right of the module bar.

  3. You will get an “Add Item to [Module name] pop-up. On this, click on the dropdown and select External Tool.

  4. Scroll through the list of tools until you find Pressbooks Content Selector, and click it.

  1. A “Link Resource from External Tool” pop-up will appear. On this, check the box next to the Pressbook H5P interactive you want added, and click Select Content.

    • Note: you must see “graded assignment” in light grey text next to the H5P content you ensure it’s been set up right in Pressbooks and will function right in Canvas.

  2. You now have an H5P interactive you created in Pressbooks selected to embed in Canvas. Add a page name, click Add Item, and you have added it.

  3. Since you set up the content under “LMS Grade Reporting” and the Add H5P button, the attempt settings import alongside the content. These default to no due date and 10 points, so if you need to change it see the final step.

  4. To add a due date and points, locate the new content you’ve added in Modules, and Edit Assignment like you do for regular assignments.
